TRAINING

Staff Profile

Appointments are competency based. Alexa uses updated job criteria and specifications provided by the client as the basis of question formulation. Tests and assessments could be consistently and objectively used in conjunction with other measures of screening. Employee profiles are determined by the applicable job descriptions and unit-specific requirements.  Some of the general qualities we seek in our Security Officers are:

  • Security Officers must be fluent and well versed in English, and must have a good understanding of basic mathematics.
  • Security Officers must preferably be from the local community for practical and social development reasons
  • Security Officers must be well groomed and friendly, polite and courteous when dealing with guests.
  • Security Officers must be passionate about service.
Minimum Education
Standard 10 / Grade 12
Screening and Interviewing

Our policy and procedure prior to employment includes:

  • Standard interviews
  • Criminal checks
  • Reference checks
  • Evaluation and consultation with security to ensure Security Officers do not have previous records
  • Check with other hotels to ensure Security Officers have not been convicted at those hotels.
Literacy, Reference and Legal checks
Our Security Officers are selected with the highest level of education (Grade 10 to 12), and with particular emphasis on employing the correct attitude – not necessarily the skills ony. To ensure that our service promise is backed up by our actual delivery, we develop Security Officers’ behavioural, knowledge and skill sets through ongoing in-job training.
Training and Development

We believe that there is no better place to train Security Officers than on-site. Our contract managers, under the expert guidance and assistance of Senior Alexa Security Solutions Management, carry out ongoing training on and off the job. By means of offering both practical and theoretical training we promote the development of a skilled workforce, thereby creating productive Security Officers. Structured training plans are tailored to ensure the highest levels of service delivery are maintained. Specialised training can be provied done on request of the client establishment. Regional directors conduct on-site assessments on a monthly basis. Any service delivery shortfalls are immediately addressed through appropriate training and workshop sessions.

Wherever it is deemed possible, Security Officers who are being developed will be given the opportunity to grow within the organisation. By following the RASCI (Responsibility, Accountability, Support, Communicate and Information) theory, development, growth and success is guaranteed.
HR Policy

Alexa Security Solutions managers conduct counselling and disciplinary action for serious offences. We encourage our clients’ supervisors and managers to enforce the day-to-day discipline to ensure they are respected by the staff.  It is also important for driving home the values and principles of the client and to highlight the very important fact that they are involved in a partnership with the client.

We comply with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act (BCEA) and applicable Wage Determinations, the Labour Relations Act (LRA), the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COID).
